Reed
Sorenson's Pit Crew, watching him drive for the win!

Is
it possible to get too much racing? Not for us! On our way home from the Pike's
Peak Busch Race - somewhere between the mountians of Colorado and the plains
of Kansas - we decided to go to Gateway the next weekend. Kathy Beth couldn't
make it so we were a Sister short... This track doesn't host a Cup race, and
didn't seem prepared for the growing fan base that the Busch Series is enjoying...
Our tickets were at the Will Call trailer, located several miles away from the
track, kind of off in BFE if you're not familiar with the St. Louis Area. There
is a working Truck stop right beside the track - bet they're not real crazy
about driving on race days! Another thing that was frustrating - we had to pay
to park - weren't really prepared for that, like I've said before, Kansas Speedway
has spoiled us with it's convenience and comforts! Once inside the grandstands,
the carnival atmosphere lifted our road-rage. We were, after all, at a race
track! Thad played some games, Judy and I posed by
some
cars, checked out the fans, then we headed in to find our seats. We had been
excited to get front row seats, right by the flagstand - that's our favorite
spot at any track. However - there's a reason these seats are the last to go
at Gateway... Can't see much of the track. And the cars go by so fast that you
can't really tell who's who. Did get so see some close pit action. That particular
weekend Gateway had a cool tribute to the Wallace Brothers, all three raced...
Pre-race
show was something else, very patriotic - cheerleaders tossing T-shirts and
trinkets to the crowd, even had a hot-air balloon! The weather was perfect,
the
crowd was enthusiastic and racy - so were the drivers! Reed Sorenson won that
night - the fireworks show was extreme - went on for hours at the end of the
race. Which was a very good thing, it took forever to get back on the
road for home, of course we got a little lost, but oh well, we were following
a car that had GOJRGO on his license plate - cool!
MAN, DID
WE SEE
FIREWORKS!!
