Never
underestimate the value of a "NasCarla Major Chill" moment. You will seriously
regret it. Let me explain. NasCarla, the big sister - (and the awesome web designer
of 3sistersracing.com) has a unique decision making ability - if you tell her
something - an idea, a fleeting thought - and she tells you, "that just gave
me major chills" then you can pretty much take that idea or thought to the bank.
I don't know what it is, and I don't think it's a family trait (at least I haven't
got it - I'm more in the "think long, think wrong" category), but I have learned
to believe her, no matter what. So when Judy Kay thought up the website idea,
and NasCarla got her "major chill" we all knew this would be big for us. So...
fast forward to... a Saturday morning in early December, 2005 when Judy Kay
tuned into 610am radio for
Inside
Motorsports, a weekly talk show all about racing. The talk on this off-season
morning included stories and calls about one of our favorite drivers - and fellow
Wellsville-ian -
Terry Bivins.
One thing led to another, and before we knew it, Mark Merrill and Ryck Sanders
- hosts of the show, were inviting us to be guest hosts. So... fast forward
to... New Years Eve 2005 - a time to savor the memories and moments of 2005,
and look forward to the challenges and experiences awaiting us in 2006, and
we got to spend a portion of our day doing what we love to do - talk about racing!
We really had no idea what to expect, since all of our media experience has
been in print. (Of course, NasCarla was worried about getting her "hair-did",
and I was worried about a pesky cold sore....Judy Kay had to remind us, it's
RADIO!) I think we were all a bit more nervous than we let on, knowing the giggles
would be infectious if one of us started it. It was just awesome, and not at
all scary or intimidating once we got there, settled into our seats and the
countdown to airtime began. Mark Merrill was a gracious host, and made us feel
so comfortable. His interest in our website and our thoughts were very genuine,
and we shared lots of laughs and insight to our world of racing. We also got
to meet the
Backstretch
Boys - they not only write great songs of the sport, but can sing too! Luckily
for the listening audience of 610am, we were not asked to sing. We got to talk
about how our website came to be, and where we want to go with it. I think Judy
Kay said it best when she said we have so many trips, stories and pictures together,
and with our entire racing family, it's a shame not to share them. She said
just think of 3sistersracing.com as a big family scrapbook. We usually don't
get too deep, our main purpose is to have fun, meet drivers and their crews,
be supportive of their talents and achievements, and to be a perfect fan of
the sport we all love. We're learning whenever you head in a new direction you
have to be willing and prepared to go through the doors that open to help reach
your goal. We look forward to the racing friends we've yet to meet, the tracks
we've yet to visit, and the wins we've yet to celebrate. But we also look forward
to preserving where we've been, and keeping our website "scrapbook" filled with
memories and moments like our first radio debut, another "major chill moment"
for all of us. -
