The whole Race Weekend schedule
was switched up this spring at Kansas Speedway, so we had to do a little creative
adjustments of our own. The Indy cars ran on Saturday instead of Sunday, presumably
because the Cup race was a Saturday night race, and they can't run Cup and
Truck on the same day - especially in different states. The bad weather held
off for the Indy races - Sunday was another story - more about that later...
Scott Dixon won the Road Runner
Turbo Indy 300 for the second consecutive year, giving Target Chip Ganassi
Racing its fourth victory in a row at the track (Dan Wheldon won in 2007 and
‘08). He held off Dario Franchitti over the final six laps after a restart
in the first oval race of the season. “Definitely at the end I was worried
because we've been caught out so many times with the pit sequence,” said Dixon,
who led a field-high 167 laps and vaulted to second in the championship standings.
Hey - there is a driver with the name of Will Power in the Indy series...
I just thought I'd throw that in here - it's kind of cool! So, I googled him
- he meets one of Judy Kay's favorite driver criteria - he's pretty hot! Bonus!
We tailgated at James and
NASCarla's Saturday night, after the Indy Race - that was such a great idea
- hopefully it will become a new tradition! A couple of people stayed over
and watched the Nationwide race, and we prepared food for tailgating the next
morning - long, fun day...

Ford had a fine diversion for race fans - drifting - free drifting. Long line, but Dane thinks it was worth the wait!
Yeah, we're all on the Danica Bandwagon - we even use Go Daddy as our web host - sponsors rock!

Randy and Nise pose before dinner, Randy says "Is it ready yet?" Kathy Beth outdid herself with dessert, man oh man!!
Breakfast Burritos were on the menu for this Tailgating weekend - yummy! Earlier this spring our friend Fred (not a NASCAR fan) gifted NASCarla with this incredible tent - how cool is that? Plus, with the speedway tickets came Track Passes... we got to go to the infield for entertainment and driver introductions! And we didn't even have to walk all around the track through the tunnel, we entered the infield through the gates right in front of our seats! Pat Green sang his hit song “Wave on Wave” for our infield entertainment, we had photo ops next to the trucks, and had close-up shots of the drivers - thanks Kansas, it was great fun - can't wait for October!
Driver #60, Narain Karthikeyan, hits the wall right in front of us - dashing Robert Allred's (The Backstretch Boys) hopes for the Driver pot win. Oh wait, he's got another chance with #10 Jennifer Cobb... not! Lap 17, all downhill from there...
With 13 laps to go, check out this video! The weather kept us on our feet all day, and so did the race - Kansas never lets us down, in spite of the weather... We all made it off the track alive and happy. And witnessed another historical Kansas Speedway finish. Way to go!
We didn't know this at the race in April, but Taylor has decided to go to K-State in 2011 - good thing for the Bivins guys that the Big KU Bird didn't know that, Taylor might have been choked by the Jayhawk...
Mother of the Year Award goes to the idiot who let her child stand out in the lightning, wind and HAIL. We couldn't believe our eyes, who was stupider, the mom or the kid??? Makes us even prouder of our own - Taylor Bivins had the good sense to draw the winning driver, Sauter, out of the Driver Pot envelope - good job Taylor - supper's on you!
Local favorite driver Jennifer waves just for James : )
Chase Cross and his girlfriend Jackie, "Is it ready yet?"
Mouth waterin' yet? To compliment the cheese toast, James did some heavy-duty grilling and served grilled pork steaks, along with the usual hamburgers, brats and dogs. Nise brought a really good salad, made with Ramen noodles, sure to become our new tradition!
Dane Cross has one eye on the food preparation and one eye on son Chase...
